All Day Sits
We held a weekend non-residential retreat at Little Chapel on the UA campus in October.
Please stay tuned for our spring and summer schedule. Our typical schedule for the day: We start at 8 and end at 4. Part time attendance is fine, though joining us for the whole day is great. Our morning block goes from 8-11:30. We have a silent potluck vegetarian lunch and rest period from 11:30-12:30. The afternoon block goes from 12:30-4:00. We alternate 25 minute sits with 5 minute walking meditations. It’s fine to sit in a chair, or switch between chair and cushion. In the morning, a long outdoor walk (weather permitting) replaces one of the sits. In the afternoon, yoga or qigong replaces a sit. In the morning, there’s also a Sutra Service in place of one sitting period. In the afternoon, we close with a 45 minute Koan Seminar. Optional Work in the Room (individual meeting with our teacher Tenney Nathanson Roshi) is available during the afternoon block. If you have any questions, please email us: desertrainzen@gmail.com Here’s a sample schedule: All Day Sit 8-4 there are walking meditations between sits 7:30 set up (all help is welcome) 8:00 tea in the hall; sit; morning greeting 8:30 sit 9:00 Sutra Service 9:30 sit 10:00 long walk outside (weather permitting; optional) 10:30 sit 11:00 sit 11:30 silent potluck vegetarian lunch 12:30 sit (optional Work in the Room begins) 1:00 sit (optional Work in the Room) 1:30 yoga or qi gong (optional) 2:00 sit (optional Work in the Room) 2:30 sit (optional Work in the Room) 3:00 Koan Seminar & closing 4:00 clean up (all help is welcome) |
